Object Identification– Desktop Application

Methods to identify objects for a Desktop AUT

Prerequisites

  1. 1.
    The Application under test (AUT) must be up and running.
  2. 2.
    The Application under test (AUT) must have sufficient privileges for automation.
Note: If the AUT is not visible in the taskbar or the foreground, then follow the procedure mentioned: Open Task Manager > Check if the AUT is in the list of tasks. If the AUT is not visible in the task list, then click on the process/services tab and check if the related AUT process or service is running.

Click and Add

Click and Add is used to identify only the objects on a desktop screen using any of the two methods – Method A or Method B.

    Click on the screen name in the ‘My Tasks - To Do’ pane.

2. Click on the ‘Desktop Apps’ icon on the Action Bar.

3. A pop-up titled Launch Application is displayed.

Launch Application:
  • Window Name: The window Name of AUT must be entered here.
  • Process ID: The process ID of AUT must be entered
  • Object Identification methods: Method A and B
    Object Identification Methods determine the supporting technology of the AUT and perform object identification based on the selection.
    • Method A (default): VCL, MFC, VB6, simple WinForms controls and supports most of the legacy applications.
    • Method B: WinForms, WPF, Store apps, Qt5, browsers.
  • Launch Button: To start the object identification process of the AUT.
4. On clicking the Launch button, the application under test and Avo Assure object identification window will be opened.

5. Click on the ‘Start ClickAndAdd’ button on the Avo Assure object identification window.

6. Wait till the ‘Start ClickAndAdd’ is switched to ‘Stop ClickAndAdd’ in the Avo Assure object identification window.

7. Click on the objects that have to be identified.
8. Once all the desired objects are selected, click on the ‘Stop ClickAndAdd’ button in the Avo Assure object identification window.
9. On clicking the ‘Stop ClickAndAdd’ button, it will stop identifying objects and navigate to the object identification page.
10. All the objects identified will appear on the object identification page.

11. Click on the ‘Save’ button to save all the identified objects.

12. Pop up displaying the message ‘Scraped data saved successfully’ is displayed.

  1. 1.
    Click on the screen name in the ‘My Tasks – To Do’ pane.

4. On clicking the Launch button, the SAP Application and Avo Assure object identification window will open.

5. Once the application is opened, select any object type from the dropdown in the object identification window and click on the Scrape button.

6. Navigate to the object identification page. All the objects of the selected object type will appear on the object identification page of Avo Assure.
7. Click on the ‘Save’ button to save all the identified objects.
