# Send Function Keys Action is Failing

**Summary**: This article describes an issue where **Send Function Keys** fails when you provide an unsupported input.

### Error behaviour

When this issue occurs, you can observe the following behaviour:

* The dynamic variable returns **False**.
* The function key or key combination is not applied to the target element.
* Depending on error-handling configuration, the test execution may stop at the **Send Function Keys** step, and subsequent steps may not execute.

### **Possible Reasons**

This issue may occur due to one or more of the following reasons:

* The **Input Value** does not match any supported function key name (typing error or unsupported key name used).
* A non-numeric, zero, or negative value is provided after the semicolon (**;**) separator for \<number>. For example: ctrl+c;zero, ctrl+c;-2.
* Function Keys in a combination are not joined using plus (**+**). For example: ctrl and c.
* The specified key is unsupported by the Operating System (OS), browser, or application in the current context.

### Resolution/Solution

To resolve this issue and ensure successful execution, perform the following actions:

1. Refer to the List of Function Keys and List of Key Combinations tables and enter the exact function key as the Input Value.
2. Cross-check spelling of function key before re-running the step.
3. Provide a valid positive integer (1 or greater) after the ; separator, or skip \<number> to default to 1. For example: ctrl+c;2, ctrl+c.
4. Join combination keys using + with no spaces. For example. ctrl+c, not ctrl c or ctrl,c.
5. Verify that the target OS, browser, or application supports the specified key before use.
6. If the function key is blocked or unsupported, use an alternate supported key or a different action.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://docs.avoautomation.com/avo-assure/support-resources/knowledge-base-articles/generic/downloaded-file-can-be-accessed-by-anyone-1.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
