# Get Textbox Length

This is a pre-built Action located under the captured textbox element. The functionality of this Action in Avo Assure is to fetch the maximum allowed length of the textbox. The retrieved value is stored in a dynamic variable for further use during test execution.

## Syntax                                                     &#x20;

**Input Value**: `N/A`&#x20;

<table><thead><tr><th>Argument</th><th>Description</th><th data-hidden></th></tr></thead><tbody><tr><td>N/A</td><td>Not Applicable</td><td></td></tr></tbody></table>

**Output Value**: `<Dynamic Variable>;<Dynamic Variable>(Optional)`

<table><thead><tr><th>Argument</th><th>Description</th><th data-hidden></th></tr></thead><tbody><tr><td>&#x3C;Dynamic Variable><br>(Required)</td><td>This dynamic variable stores the retrieved length of the text box.</td><td></td></tr><tr><td>&#x3C;Dynamic Variable><br>(Optional)</td><td>This dynamic variable stores the status as <strong>True</strong> or <strong>False</strong>.</td><td></td></tr></tbody></table>

{% hint style="info" %}
**Note**: This action fetches the maximum number of supported characters by the text box, not the user input character length.
{% endhint %}

### **Example: Retrieving the Character Length of a Textbox**

In this example, we explain how to retrieve the maximum character length (capacity) of a specified textbox using the **Get Textbox Length** action.

* **Action**: Get Textbox Length
* **Input Value**: N/A
* The **Get Textbox Length** action does not required any input value in the **Input Value** column. It retrieves the maximum number of characters allowed in the specified textbox.
* **Output Value**: {Length}
  * The retrieved character length of text box (e.g., 15) is stored in this **{Length}** dynamic variable.
  * If a second output variable is provided, the action returns the status as True/False:
    * **True**: If the textbox length is retrieved successfully.
    * **False**: If the textbox length is not retrieved successfully.
* **Logical Explanation**: The **Get Textbox Length** action identifies the target textbox within the application and retrieves its maximum character capacity. The retrieved value is stored in the **{Length}** variable (e.g., 15).
