# Select Value by Text

This pre-built Action is located under the **@Custom Element.** The functionality of this action in Avo Assure to select the value from the dropdown based on the text provided in the input value column, and save the result in dynamic variable.

### Syntax

**Input Value:** `<Object Type>;<VisibleText(Optional)>;<index>;<text>;<abs(optional)>`

| Argument                               | Description                                                                                                               |
| -------------------------------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| <p>\<Object Type><br>(Required)</p>    | Specific type of object to be selected.                                                                                   |
| <p>\<VisibleText></p><p>(Optional)</p> | The visible text associated with the object.                                                                              |
| <p>\<index></p><p>(Required)</p>       | Provide the position of the element, which helps to identify the value based on the sequence in list . (starting from 0)​ |
| <p>\<text></p><p>(Required)</p>        | The visible text to be selected from the dropdown or list                                                                 |
| <p>\<abs><br>(Optional)</p>            | If the **abs** is provided, the action is performed with absolute identification using the **absolute X path**            |

**Note:** If last argument abs is defined then the Action must be executed with absolute preformation with the specified visible text in the input.

*To skip an optional input value, use an extra semicolon (;).*

**Example 1**

**Performs selection of a value from a list based on the visible text**

The **Select Value by Text** action takes the value from the Input Value column (e.g., **select;;0;Last Month)** and selects the specified value by matching the text from the targeted list or dropdown. The result of the selection operation is stored in the **{Value}** variable as **Ture** or **False**

**Example 2**

**Performs selection of a value from a list based on the visible text and optional parameter**

The **Select Value by Text** action takes the value from the Input Value column (e.g., **select;All;1;Last Month;//\*\[@id="ddlmonthloan"])** and selects the specified value by matching the text from the targeted list or dropdown. The result of the selection operation is stored in the **{Value}** variable as **Ture** or **False**
