Example 1: Retrieving the Selected Value from a Dropdown

In this example, we are explaining how to retrieve the currently selected option from a specified dropdown field on the application.

  • Action: Get Selected Value from Dropdown

  • Input Value: select;;0

    • The first argument (select) specifies the object type to be identified.

    • The second argument is left blank to skip an optional value.

    • The third argument (0) specifies the index of the dropdown field when multiple matching elements are present.

  • Output Value: {Value}

    • The retrieved selected value from the dropdown is stored in the {Value} dynamic variable.

    • If a second output variable is defined, it stores the execution status with the following possible values:

      • True: If the selected value is retrieved successfully.

      • False: If the selected value is not retrieved successfully.

  • Logical Explanation: The Get Selected Value from Dropdown action reads the identification details from the Input Value column (select;;0). The action locates the matching dropdown field based on the specified object type and index and fetches the currently selected option from the dropdown list. The retrieved selected value is stored in the {Value} variable.

Example 2: Retrieving the Selected Value from a Dropdown using Optional Parameters

In this example, we are explaining how to retrieve the currently selected option from a specified dropdown field on the web page using optional identification parameters.

  • Action: Get Selected Value from Dropdown

  • Input Value: select;Fund;0

    • The first argument (select) specifies the object type to be identified.

    • The second argument (Fund) specifies the visible text of the dropdown field.

    • The third argument (0) specifies the index of the dropdown when multiple matching elements are present.

  • Output Value: {Value}

    • The retrieved selected value from the dropdown is stored in the {Value} dynamic variable.

    • If a second output variable is defined, it stores the execution status with the following possible values:

      • True: If the selected value is retrieved successfully.

      • False: If the selected value is not retrieved successfully.

  • Logical Explanation: The Get Selected Value from Dropdown action reads the identification details from the Input Value column (select;Fund;0). The action locates the matching dropdown field based on the specified object type, visible text, and index and fetches the currently selected item from the dropdown list. The retrieved selected value is stored in the {Value} variable.
