# Get Total Column Count

This is a pre-built Action located under the **@Excel Element**. The functionality of this Action in Avo Assure is to fetch the total number of columns present in the Excel file. The result of this operation is stored in a dynamic variable for further use during test execution.

## Syntax                                            &#x20;

**Input Value**: `N/A`

| <p>\<Dynamic Variable><br>(Required)</p> | This dynamic variable stores the total column count of the Excel sheet. |

### **Example: Retrieving the Total Number of Columns from an Excel Sheet**

In this example, we explain how to fetch the total number of columns available in an Excel sheet.

* **Action:** Get Total Column Count
* **Input Value:** N/A
  * This action does not require any input value. It reads the active Excel sheet and retrieves the total number of columns present in it.
* **Output Value:** {Columns}
  * The total column count (e.g., 4) is stored in this **{Columns}** dynamic variable.
  * If a second output variable is provided, it stores the operation status with the following possible values:
    * **True:** If the column count is retrieved successfully.
    * **False:** If the column count is not retrieved successfully.
* **Logical Explanation:** The **Get Total Column Count** action reads the currently active Excel sheet and calculates the total number of columns. This action stores the resulting count in the **{Columns}** variable (e.g., 4).
