# Select value by text

This is a pre-built Action located under the captured Dropdown Element from the Desktop Application. The functionality of this Action in Avo Assure is to select a value from the dropdown based on the text provided in the input. The result is stored in the given dynamic variable for further use during test execution.

## Syntax

**Input Value**: `<Input Value>`&#x20;

| Argument                               | Description                                             |
| -------------------------------------- | ------------------------------------------------------- |
| <p>\<Index Value></p><p>(Required)</p> | Specify the item name to be selected from the dropdown. |

**Output value**: `<Dynamic Variable>(Optional);<Dynamic Variable>(Optional)`

| Argument                                                    | Description                                                       |
| ----------------------------------------------------------- | ----------------------------------------------------------------- |
| \<Dynamic Variable>(Optional);\<Dynamic Variable>(Optional) | Both dynamic variable stores the status as **True** or **False**. |

### **Example: Selecting an Item from a List or Dropdown using Visible Text**

In this example, we explain how to select an item from a dropdown or list based on the provided visible text.

* **Action**: Select value by text
* **Input Value**: Last Month
  * The first argument (**Last Month**) specifies the visible text of the item to be selected from the dropdown or list element.
* **Output Value**: {Status}
  * The execution result of the selection action is stored in the **{Status}** dynamic variable with the following possible values:
    * **True**: If the item is selected successfully.
    * **False**: If the item is not selected successfully.
* **Logical Explanation**: The **Select value by text** action reads the value from the **Input Value** column (**Last Month**). This action identifies the option in the dropdown or list matching the specified text and selects it. The status of the operation (**True**) is stored in the **{Status}** variable.
